How to add the Unionbank Eon Card to Paypal

December 27th, 2007 · 28 Comments

So yesterday I’ve finally verified my Paypal account by adding the Eon Card from Unionbank. And here’s how I did it.

  1. To open an EON Account, go to Unionbank’s website and sign up for the EON Visa Electron account. Choose the Unionbank branch where you want to claim your card.
  2. Claim your card after a week.
  3. Once you have your card, deposit at least Php200.
  4. Enroll your card to EON CyberAccount Online Banking. It will take 2-3 days to be activated.
  5. After 2-3 days, login to Cyber Account Online Banking to check if your account has been activated. If you were able to login, then it is activated :)
  6. Go to Paypal and add your EON card.
  7. After 4-5 days, contact the Unionbank Customer Service Call Center at 84-186 and ask for your 4-digit PayPal expanded use code.
  8. Go back to your Paypal account and click on Finish Expanded Use Enrollment and enter the 4 digit code that is given to you.

And that’s it, you’re verified!

“Once you have your card, deposit at least Php200.”
    - This is aside from the Php350 annual fee that I paid, I assume? Meaning, the account needs to have credit in it before it can be accepted and added in my list of cards?

    Hello Luc,

I just got my EON Card today and right away, I deposited 500 bucks along with the 350-buck Visa Electron renewal fee. I enrolled my account online too when I got home. I’ll be checking my online account status next week.

My question is, how would you know if your VISA Electron number is already recognized by Paypal? Based on my research, some folks have had trouble activating their Paypal accounts. I don’t want to have this ordeal.

Well, you will only know if you try to add your card number and Paypal accepts it. Just follow the steps above :)

I see. Thanks for your speedy response. I’m just afraid that I will have to wait for weeks if the card gets rejected by Paypal.

Hello. An update to my Paypal-EON experience. Unfortunately, my card got denied by Paypal. This was after I was able to log-in to my EON Online Account and sending an e-mail to Unionbank, asking for assurance if my debit card number was already recognized by Paypal. EON Services responded a day after, telling me that indeed it was.

I asked for help from the folks at the SEO Philippines forums and thought that I might have missed one point. You may follow our discussion there.

My problem isn’t resolved yet, but I’ll keep you posted.

    Hi Gabriel,

I had the same problem and in my search to fix paypal denying your account, I stumble upon union bank’s website. Its all indicated there. Many bloggers I have found are saying to add EON as credit card. It should be added as a bank account. I add it previously as credit card but was denied. Then I add it as back account and the add was smooth. Try visiting union bank’s website for instructions:

Hope you get your card activated.

    Hello Everyone!
Unfortunately, this past weeks or months perhaps Union Bank has been updating their system for some issues that’s why your card were being rejected when you try to get it verified by paypal. But I am glad to inform you that those issues were being resolved and you can now add your EON account to paypal. But please be reminded to you need to have at least 200 (100 will do) balance credited to your account because paypal will charge you $1.95 to verify your account. But you don’t have to worry because the $1.95 will be returned to your account when your debit card is being verified. They do this to make sure that your card is really active.

    Hello,

Just a follow-up on my case, I now have successfully verified my account, including the EXPUSE thingy after 35 days. I tried using my card offline by purchasing some grocery items in a convenient store that accepts Visa Electron, but I was slapped with a Do not honor message. Again, after 35 days, I can now use my card both offline and online.

My ordeal is finally over. Thank goodness!

Hi, may I ask Gabriel, if you could remember what convenient store did you use for you visa electron? thank you. So I could use my card there and get my eon verified. thanks

    Hello Marc,

It was a local store here in Davao. I am from Davao, by the way. I’m usually out at work at 4am and it’s the only store near my vicinity that’s open 24-hours and where I can test the card. The name of the store is Davao Central Convenience Store. It’s like a 7Eleven or a Mini Stop store but without the burgers and slurpee’s.

Thank you Gabriel. I’ll give my visa a try. I have been working on my paypal since april, I can’t get my eon working. Hopefully, using it offline would do the trick. thanks again. :)

Hello everybody. I would like to share my experience too. I have been paypal-verified a month ago through my GSIS eCard. But I was so desperate that after my several follow-ups on online banking system application, until now I can’t log onto my GSIS eCard (because I want to add fund to my paypal). I applied eon through online on May 2008 and I have been wasting my money in going to Cagayan de Oro City several times also to see if my card arrived. I keep on checking online if eon card is back for reapplication… What a weird business we have in our country!

my eon can’t connect with paypal. Even the 841-86 guys can’t figure out why. Its been four months. I’ve basically given up. Any suggestion on what other payment schemes can I use besides xoom and 2co?

    Hi!
I am from Davao. I would like to share my experience with Union eon card and I would to help me resolve my problem. I got my eon card last October. I added it in my paypal as a bank account. It was successful so I withdraw $100 and was waiting for it to appear in my account but up to now I still do not have my paypal money. I wrote paypal and they confirm that is was sent to Union bank and there was no notice of rejection from them. I wrote to Union bank about this and they say that my eon account has not yet linked to paypal. I am very worried because I do not know if I will have my money. I tried to add my eon card as credit card but it is denied. I need your help. thanks
