Just ordered a Vostro from DELL Ireland. Just wanted to say that XP is currently offered by DELL Ireland at the moment on the Vostro 1700 (I chose XP myself). Not sure if this is the case everywhere though.
Most home users will not think to select the Vostro as its aimed at the business market - but for the home user this seems to me to offer better all round value and higher spec than the home offerings.
All the very best from Ireland!
The only downside is the look of the machine (black only and quite plain) which might put some off - not me personally but it may not appeal to all

I am very disappointed with my Vostro1700. It is pretty ugly and the mouse pad is not reliable which is quite frustrating, especially the scrolling area which only works occasionally.
I got my Vostro with all the bells and whistles, and it cost a pretty penny, but I am not impressed. The bluetooth mouse I bought with the lap top from dell stopped working the 2nd day of use, and the Vostro only sees my wireless printer when it feels like it.
The on off switch for the wireless connection is in the worst place, near the front left side, exactly where you would put your hands to maneuver the lap top or lift it up. The latch on this expensive piece of equipment is pretty flimsy and looks as if it will not last long. The surface of the lap top is strange and attracts ugly greasy finger prints at first touch. Why they couldn't give it a nice shiny finish , I will never know, and make it more attractive to the eye at least! It now sits back in its box as I figure out what to do with it.

Lots more options for this machine are available from Dells UK website, inc. XP, 256MB graphics, dual hard discs etc., just select the basic machine and edit the spec at final review stage.
